Amazon introduce video streaming

by David Allen

They may be famous for selling books, but Amazon has stayed in business by diversifying. Now with the introduction of the new Amazon Video on Demand website, which will put them in direct competition with Google, Apple, Microsoft and of course Netflix?

This is of course not the first try by Amazon to enter this market, although this time it appears to have been thought out much more clearly. There will be around forty thousand films and TV shows to choose from initially but naturally as the customer base increases then so will the amount of programming being made available.

Amazon sees this as being a service where users download the video of their choice and then watch it on their computer, but they have also made this service available owners Sony equipment who can watch the downloaded material on their TV, but only if other equipment is purchased.
