BBC’s Trustees watch Sky
by David Allen

On the face of it, this is something that is to be expected. After all Sky TV is serious contender for most broadcasters, especially now that the digital switchover is underway. So top executives watching the competition occasionally might be considered alright, in fact it could even be part of their job.
However, it seems that being a trustee of the BBC has some benefits, as the expenses claims for the Chairman of the BBC Trust, Sir Michael Lyons. He claimed a little over £26,000 in expenses for the year, which included a claim of £459; this was for a subscription and installation of a Sky TV system.
However, that is not all, it seems that the Chairman of BBC Trust did not have a TV either, as he was loaned a £890 TV and a £178 DVD recorder.
Clearly there was a lot of research needed their, which is why this equipment and services were needed; after all he only earns £140,000 a year.
