Prisoners have playstation games taken away

As from the end of September prisoners being held in either England or Wales will no longer be allowed to play games that have a rating of eighteen.

At the moment only prisoners who have demonstrated good behaviour or those who are not at a risk of suicide are able to use the playstations and the games.

Last year the Prison Service spent £10,000 on playstations and games. This practice is also set to change as from the same date; prisoners will now have to buy their own playstation’s and games.

Whereas before all of these games and consoles were paid for by the tax payer.

However, although this would seem to be an expense not needed, a playstation could be a valuable tool for the staff of the prison.

Am I the only one who sees something fundamentally wrong here? Why are prisoners allowed to have games consoles at all? It’s a PRISON… not a holiday camp. Are we locking people up at Butlins? They are there for a reason. Let’s make prison a tough life so people won’t want to be in there and might make an effort to stay on the right side of the law like the rest of us.
