EU wants UK’s input on Phorm
by David Allen

The European Union’s Commissioner for Information, Society and Media, Viviane Reding, has written to the UK government with regards to finding out their take on the Phorm situation.
She wants the UK to provide the EU with their view as to whether or not Phorm complies with current data protection legislation.
Although the actual content of the letter is not known, it is believed that the government has until the end of the month to come up with their answers.
BT has already used Phorm in secret, and is planning another test soon.
Virgin Media and Talk Talk are said to be very interested in using the system on their networks too.
After the initial testing, there were calls for BT to be taken to court for breaking the Data Protection Act.
This did not happen, but there was a ruling made that states any company that plans to use Phorm needs to get their customers’ permission first.
