O2 joins the Sony party

by David Allen

O2 are launching My Play on the O2 active portal, where there are some other mini sites too where individual artists and groups show off exclusive content and information.

Users of the online music store will have access to the Sony BMG catalogue of artists, music videos which will have a price tag of £1.50 and each music track will can be downloaded for just 99p, bringing it in line with other providers, but not Apple iTunes who still charge 79p.

The site will also be selling ringtones for mobile phones; these will be carrying a charge of £3.50.

It seems that instead of diversifying into their separate businesses, all of the main mobile telecom companies are playing along the same lines.

Soon there will not be any differences between any of the providers at all, apart from logos and corporate colours.
