UK broadband put to the test

In a major survey conducted by the broadband comparison site, samknows.co.uk, what is supposed to be one of the most accurate studies of the state of the internet in the UK today has thrown up some surprises.

While all ISPs have performed in a very similar manner, Virgin Media did very well in the test on cable networks, but their ADSL service leaves a lot to be desired, especially when it is using BT lines.

The problem is believed to originate from the traffic shaping that BT employs during peak hours, but even without this, it is surprising how close the internet service providers are, despite all of the media coverage that has been going around recently.

Virgin Media have said that they are looking into the problems with congestion on their network.
