DivX Certifies Chip from Broadcom

Divx, Inc, have finally announced their new product range, which will be inclusive of the long anticipated high-definition (HD) DivX Certification™ of Broadcom Corporation’s BCM7405 system-on-a-chip (SoC) solution.

Broadcom already have a product range that is inclusive of various SoCs, such as the BCM7452 and BCM7403, and now the BCM7405, which provides advanced internet provider (IP) functionality and improved video and audio performance for satellite, cable and IP set-top boxes, looks to receive the same certification.

Key features include playback, time shifting and trick modes, not to mention that the product supports the playback of 1080p Divx content.

The recent Divx collaboration can only be a stepping stone upwards for Broadcom, as they continue to develop and distribute their products, further and further.

Divx allows video content to be drastically reduced in size and remain compatible on the likes of digital video recorders, portable media players, digital televisions, Blu-ray DVD players, and mobile phones.

The compressed file allows content to be easily distributed as well as easy to switch between devices at the same time.

The DivX Certified® logo represents a certain standard for media products, and the products that possess the logo have completed a series of product breaking and limit stretching tests, which ensure their suitability for the logo.
