Ofcom releases broadband figures

There are some surprising figures within the media regulator Ofcom’s “Communications Market Report” covering the first quarter of 2008.

The average broadband customer in the UK spent on internet and broadband services £9.45 per month during 2007; in 2006 this was £9.87 per month.

The figure could be down to customers being more skilled in finding cheaper packages.

This would account for the massive rise in customers seeking bundles – these deal hunters increased from 18% in 2006 to 32% in March 2008.

Fixed line broadband connections are in almost sixty per cent of the UK households.

This has increased by six per cent over the past twelve months and they can expect to receive a connection speed of 5.9 Mbps, while last year this figure was 3.6 Mbps.

The conclusion is that broadband is seeing a stable increase year on year, but with mobile broadband proving to be very popular, will it be the same this time next year?
