The Twitter falls silent in the UK
by David Allen

There are not really many good things ever said about Twitter, because it mainly deals in short one liners that are sent out to family, friends and even work colleagues.
Until recently there was one good thing about the Twitter network and that was that every time there was an update in a network, everyone gets to hear about it, as Twitter would send out an SMS message, but this has now stopped and the Twitter network has fallen silent.
The problem with sending SMS messages in the UK and Europe is the cost.
Twitter estimate that this service costs them around £500 per member a year, which it totally unsustainable without charging.
However, those networks in India, Canada and the USA have no worries; they can continue to send SMS messages to their networks of friends because of the pricing structures in those countries.
There are other services available for UK members but sadly no more SMS messages.

Cutting away the SMS notifications means dumping the conversational element of Twitter.
Without the direct interaction of notifications, Twitter becomes just a website, just a ‘message board’. I will continue to Twitter, but I will miss interacting with people so much.
