Fluke takes over NetAlly Product Line
by Alan Harten
Fluke Networks has purchased Viola Networks’ intellectual property, which includes technologies and source code of the popular NetAlly product line.
This will represent a big widening of the company’s product lines and a further business shift towards VoIP analysis.
It seems that Fluke were particularly keen to get their hands on NetAlly to integrate it with their existing NetFlow Tracker and Visual UpTime product lines as well as their new baby, Visual Performance Manager 4.0.
Fluke already provides solutions support for service providers and enterprise managers in relation to network and VoIP performance.
NetAlly will help Fluke give customers a much deeper VoIP pre-assessment capability and assist in monitoring VoIP infrastructures through call manager visibility.
Their thinking behind the acquisition is related to the findings of Nemertes Research that states companies deploying third-party, VOIP-focused management tools can reduce per-user IP telephony operating costs by as much as 90%, and the more fully a tool set can address the complete lifecycle of VOIP in the enterprise, the greater the role it can play in such deployments.
One of NetAlly’s most endearing features is that it incorporates an active network test approach that is particularly adept at performing pre-deployment network assessments.
Fluke consider that this will marry well with their existing test methodologies, providing a more complete picture of voice and data performance in both real time and through historical views.
