Vodafone hikes up call prices

Vodafone has announced plans to increase its minimum call charges in the UK by between 25% and 50%.

Minimum call charges will increase from 10p to 15p for calls made outside of bundled contract minutes, while for PAYG customers the minimum call charge will increase from 12p to 15p.

The price hike, which will take effect from 1st September, is being made by the mobile operator in an attempt to boost flagging revenues.

In a statement that defies the laws of logic, a Vodafone spokesperson said the price rises give ‘better value’ to customers.

Mobile operators have lost out recently due to cutbacks in consumer spending and because of a European Union ruling that restricts mobile companies from charging exorbitant rates to international users.

Vodafone is the second largest mobile operator in the UK with 18 million customers.

Many have responded with anger at the news of increased prices and are threatening to change networks.
