Sky has thrown down the gauntlet to the other broadcasters by creating seven more high definition (HD) channels, which will be going live during September.
This will take their total up to twenty-six, with even more promised by Christmas.
Six of these HD channels will be movie related and will follow the channels already available such as sci-fi/horror, action/thriller, drama, modern greats, family and comedy.
The seventh channel to turn HD will be Sky Real Lives.
Sky believe that there is a huge market for HD programming especially as there are already around twelve million HD ready TVs in the UK, and this number is set to almost double by the year 2010 to around twenty three million HD TVs.
