IPTV penetration to reach 5.2 million in CEE by 2013

With numerous launches already under way and others due shortly, IPTV is starting to emerge as a realistic alternative platform to cable and satellite in some CEE countries.

Russia leads the region in terms of IPTV subscribers, although services such as O2 TV (Czech Republic), Elion (Estonia) and TPSA (Poland) are also making progress.

Telcos regard IPTV as an important part of their triple-play mix. Many cable operators have been slow to upgrade their networks, giving the telcos an ideal opportunity to make inroads.

From under 200,000 homes in 2006, IPTV penetration in the CEE region will top 1 million this year and is forecasted to total 5.2 million by 2013.

Informa Telecoms & Media’s IPTV Central and Eastern Europe Forum will discuss service provider’s growth strategies for the medium and long term, also covering predictions for the Pay TV market in this region and how to monetize the full potential of IPTV.

The forum will take place on 20th-21st October 2008 in Budapest.
