Tiscali accuses customer of illegal downloading

There are two things about this story; one is that Hollywood appears to be jumping on the illegal download bandwagon by informing ISPs that their customers are illegally downloading films using their network.

This is where the other part of the story comes in. A customer of Freedon2Surf, which is now part of Tiscali UK has received a threatening letter saying telling him that he could be disconnected after MGM complained about illegal copying of an episode of Stargate Atlantis on the 16th August.

However, it turns out that the customer, Euan Maclay, left Freedon2Surf six months ago!

Now it seems that the letter was generated automatically and Tiscali claims that these sometimes are susceptible to errors.
