CinemaNow goes broadband in Europe

CinemaNow has been in the business of delivering Hollywood movies, TV shows and music to consumers since 1999, and now they are moving forward with plans to utilize Winbox Technologies’ Windows Embedded OEM set top box technology to deliver these services directly to consumers’ TV sets via broadband instead of cable TV systems.

The service, that will also allow for the downloading of software, will effectively cut out the middleman, giving CinemaNow direct access to customers TV sets.

The collaboration will enable the two companies to have the opportunity to develop storefront and Media Manager applications to facilitate new developments in electronic content distribution.

The new technology will give customers the option of choosing to integrate premium Video-Demand services via their own connected TV set-top box.

The new service will incorporate the Winbox platforms EVO1 and EVO2.

The first set-top boxes that will include CinemaNow’s content will be aimed at the UK, with products for the rest of Europe appearing in retailers later this year.
