Shenick Wins Global Technology Innovation Award
by Alan Harten
Shenick Network Systems’ deep packet inspection (DPI) test equipment has won this year’s Frost & Sullivan’s Technology Innovation Award, which recognises companies that demonstrate outstanding DPI testing technology and market performance for Internet-based application traffic control, shaping, and network management.
DPI is responsible for filtering, shaping and controlling, as well as managing network application traffic flows, such as voice, video and peer-to-peer (P2P). It also assists with security.
DPI helps to avoid network bottlenecks by shaping traffic and managing its flow.
In this way the system can assign bandwidth to give a good spread of available resources to all customers.
It ensures that everyone is receiving a good amount of bandwidth at peak times rather than some customers receiving far more than others.
Shenick’s diversifEye was the winner of the much coveted industry award.
One of its strong features is the ability for realistic scenario testing with realistic results, before switching to a live situation.
Often these tests will involve millions of virtual subscribers for an accurate interpretation of effects.
The system can run all kinds of traffic flow tests, including IPTV, Video on Demand, triple play (video, voice, data), network security, P2P, traffic shaping, and also IPv4 and IPv6 Internet protocols.
This is in fact the only system capable of simulating many millions of subscribers, which makes it uniquely helpful, especially for larger companies with huge customer bases.
