Huge rise in zombie computers
by David Allen

In recent months there has been a surge in the amount of computers that have been hijacked and turned into zombie machines.
This is according to internet security experts, the Shadowserver Foundation.
The group estimate that there could be more than 450,000 computers, which have been hijacked and turned into zombies.
This increase has been put down to the amount of websites that are infected with booby traps that trick the visitor into downloading a virus.
At the beginning of the year there were an estimated 100,000 computers connected to zombie networks, but this huge increase has been put down to the fact that the hackers have left email to infect computers in favour of web-based attacks.
Out of interest, the majority of infected computers are running Microsoft Windows!
