Tesco launches mobile VoIP service
by Jan Harris
Retailer Tesco Plc has launched ‘TalkWiFi’, a new service that allows mobile phone users to make free and low cost VoIP calls over WiFi.
The service, provided in partnership with Freshtel, can be downloaded to Nokia’s N95,N81,E65 and E51 phones, and should be available on additional models by the end of the year.
Outgoing calls made while in an unrestricted WiFi are connected via the Internet, with significant cost savings to the caller.
It would cost just 1.5p per minute to call a contact in Australia, and calls to other TalkWifi customers are free of charge, even international calls.
