Government help switchover scheme

by David Allen

The government is to back a scheme which has been designed to help eligible people with the switchover.

The Switchover Help Scheme, will be launching a direct mailing campaign.

The object of this mass mailing is to inform people of their right to receive assistance in paying for the equipment needed to switch to digital TV before the analogue signals are turned off.

It is estimated that around seven million people are eligible for some sort help under this scheme; this will mainly affect the elderly and disabled.

All people who could be eligible will be receiving a pack that explains who is eligible and how they can apply for help under the scheme.

There will be two further mailings being sent out too, these are to keep them up to date with the switchover dates and to remind them of their eligibility for help under this scheme.
