MyHeritage adds photo tagging facility
by Janet Harris

MyHeritage, the innovative family history website, has added photo tagging technology to its website to make its easier for members to catalogue, organise, and search their digital photos more easily.
The site, which is one of the world’s leading online networks for families, has raised $15 million from Index Ventures and Accel Partners to support its expansion.
The investment will allow it to establish operations in London and recruit more staff, as well as continuing to invest in new technologies for its members.
The latest photo tagging technology can recognise faces and automatically add tags to entire groups.
MyHeritage which has 25 million members, hosts 230 million photos on site, but people with pictures on sites such as Flickr, Facebook and Photobucket can also benefit from the new technology.
MyHeritage helps people research their family history and keep in touch with people around the world.
It is translated into 25 languages, more than any other genealogy site, and support for more languages is being added.
CEO Gilad Japhet said, “Our goal is to make MyHeritage the number one online destination for families. We’ve been working hard to create an experience that is fun and easy to use, but based on advanced technology that really sets us apart. With the added expertise of the Index Ventures team, MyHeritage is ready to start realizing its long term vision.”
