SkyVision buys Intelsat Space for Broadband Infrastructure
by Alan Harten
The world’s largest and most well established commercial satellite services company Intelsat, has announced that SkyVision, a worldwide Internet services provider that uses both satellite signals and terrestrial fibre optic to convey signals, has signed up for a long term multi-transponder contract with Intelsat.
Intelsat will provide SkyVision with C- and Ku-band transponder services from their IS-4 satellite, which is located at 72º East.
Skyvision was in desperate need of the additional bandwidth after becoming a victim of its own success.
In just 36 months their broadband applications services have seen a 700% increase in take up and so were struggling with their existing capabilities.
This new “space” will give them a renewed ability to rapidly expand their existing services in order to meet the demand.
In addition they intend to deploy new IP infrastructure for yet to be announced improved VPN services, particularly in its Middle Eastern and African regional private network services.
Those two regions are currently providing the company with most of its growth especially in the area of corporate networks.
They will now have added capabilities in the areas of Internet access and connectivity, digital media streaming, distance learning, data file transfers and voice-based services.
