LG’s lastest multimedia handset is powered using an AMD microprocessor.

Global chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced that the LG KC550 smartphone is powered using the AMD Imageon M180 media processor.

AMD processors are most commonly used in computing and graphics – it is unusual for a mobile phone to require the advanced levels of processing power offered by AMD.

However, the LG KC550 offers features not usually found on handsets in its price range.

The multimedia smartphone boasts a DVD quality display, MP3 player with high definition audio, 5 megapixel camera with Schneider-Kreuznach auto focus lens, image stabilisation, and high quality video capture.

AMD say that these capabilities are only possible because of the phone’s processing power.

The company works closely with OEMs such as LG to deliver the best possible experience for users of AMD powered products.

LG’s KC550 is currently available in Europe.
