Third Generation H.264 Core Engine From ATEME

MPEG-4/H.264 video compression technology specialist, ATEME, has announced the latest variation of its core engine, known as Gen3 H.264 codec, which is aimed at the Kyrion real-time video encoders and is based around several innovations unique to ATEME.

The Gen3 will allow for big gains in bandwidth efficiency as well as various improvements in picture quality.

They believe that they can now offer DTV broadcasters much improved HD transmissions with considerably improved bit rates, as well as transponder capacities that can now be much denser.

The Gen3also has support for 4:2:2 chroma sub sampling profile at higher bit rates.

Gen3 H.264 is an efficient and higher quality alternative to legacy contribution codecs such as MPEG-2 and JPEG2000.

The Gen3 is very efficient with its bandwidth use, and can double the density of video streams over DVB-S2 links while using low bit rate contribution over IP networks.
