BT to start Phorm tomorrow

by David Allen

BT have not wasted anytime in setting the Phorm targeted advertising system rolling.

It has only been a few days since the police dropped their investigation, however, as from tomorrow (Tuesday 30th September) the third and final trial will be starting.

Unlike the secret trials, which caused all of the problems for both BT and Phorm, these trials will be undertaken on consenting BT customers, as the company have already started to invite thousands of their broadband subscribers to take part in the trials.

Any customer of BT who does not want to take part will need to block cookies that come from webwise.net.

The proposed rollout of Phorm is not dependant on the trial being completed, meaning that BT can choose to switch to full rollout of Phorm whenever it they feel ready, although they say that they are working on introducing a network opt out for their customers.
