New pocket-sized projector for mobile TV

Microvision, a world leader in developing ultra-mobile projectors, is set to unveil a new pocket-sized projector this week, at the CEATEC conference in Tokyo, Japan.

The next generation PicoP projector is designed to connect up to mobile phones, iPods, personal media players and other mobile devices, solving the annoyance of having to squint at a small screen when watching videos whilst out of the house.

Videos are projected by the PicoP onto a large screen.

Alexander Tokman, president and CEO of Microvision, said the new projector is smaller, thinner and brighter than anything that has been developed before by the company.

The scanning mirror in the projector is one square millimetre, about the size of a pin head.

High quality images are projected using green lasers and cutting edge electronic innovations.

PicoP projectors have low power consumption and do not require projection lenses.

As such, they are focus free at any distance.

Tokman added that a launch date for the projector will depend on customer feedback and the availability of components.

Yankee Group predicts that the worldwide mobile TV market is set to grow from $7.9 billion in 2008 to $17.1 billion in 2012.
