Virgin Media to update data security
by David Allen

Following the loss of the personal details of thousands of potential new customers, Virgin Media have been ordered to immediately put stringent security measures in place to ensure that the same thing never happens again.
The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has found the company to be in breach of the data protection act, when a CD went missing that contained the details of over three thousand people who were interested in opening an account with Virgin Media.
From now on, the company will have to ensure that any data stored on portable or mobile devices is encrypted to prevent the data from getting into the wrong hands.
The ICO warned Virgin Media that any further breach would leave the company open to enforcement action.
