Nottingham to get Wimax
by David Allen

The beginning of October will see Nottingham Trent University testing out a Wimax broadband system, which will eventually offer free broadband access the entire city.
Initially the service was going to be for the students of the university, but this has changed into a citywide broadband-for-all project.
The funding for this project has been provided by Nottingham Trent University and Djanogly City Technology College.
However further investments have come from Intel, as well as a group of regional agencies including the Building Better Schools initiative, Accelerate Nottingham, RDA and the New Technology Initiative.
This is a good idea for the area, especially as it will help those households who are unable to get broadband due to cost or availability.
Businesses are likely to benefit from a citywide Wimax network too.
Other cities have signaled an interest in providing a Wimax in their areas, while Milton Keynes already has a Wimax network up and running.
