Freesat reaches for the Sky

According to new figures released by the media regulator Ofcom, the free-to-view satellite providers have been taken up by nearly nine hundred thousand households throughout the UK.

These figures include Freesat, who have grown since May to having 120,000 customers and the rest are made up from the BSkyB free to air package and some other smaller providers.

These units have been used to provide free-to-view digital television to households which cannot receive Freeview through an aerial connection.

The report, which covers the entire switchover process, has concluded that around eighty eight per cent of households now have digital television connected to their main TV, but even just digital TV set top boxes have a competitor in HD, with these units showing a huge increase in sales.
