Kids to get Junior iPlayer

by David Allen

Although the success of the BBC’s iPlayer is not disputed, there are concerns about it when it comes to children being able to use it to watch programmes which might be considered unsuitable for underage viewing.

The BBC have taken these concerns on board and are going to be releasing the Junior version of the iPlayer around Christmas, more or less exactly a year after the official launch of the device.

What this junior version will offer is an interface directed at kids, that offers a limited amount of content for them watch, without the fear of them being able to watch programming intended for an older audience.

At the moment all users have to do is simply tick a box confirming that they are old enough to watch the selected programme. Now parents will be able to rest assured that their children are not watching anything other than a limited range of programmes.
