Virgin Media doubts speed tests

by David Allen

The broadband provider Virgin Media has serious doubts about the results shown by online broadband speed checkers, so in order to clarify the speeds they will be in future be publishing their own monthly data in order to expose any discrepancies.

It would seem that Virgin Media are concerned over their 50 Mbps package, which is currently on trial in the UK, because it would appear that super fast broadband, which is that over 20 Mbps, is not measured as accurately in online tests as the slower connections are.

There is going to a discrepancy between the figures that an ISP shows, to those of an online speed checker.

This is simply because the ISP has access to exact data, which may have been conducted in ideal conditions, whereas the online speed checkers can only report on the data their systems come up with, therefore there are always going to be discrepancies.
