As most computer users have known for a long time, Microsoft send out their Windows updates at the same times every month but, as many users have come to expect, whenever there are official updates the cybercriminals are not going to be far behind.
It has been found that a series of emails, which look to be sent from Steve Lipner, the current senior director of security engineering strategy in Microsoft’s Trustworthy Computing Group, are bogus.
The emails have in the subject line, “Security Update for OS Microsoft Windows,” and come with an attachment.
It all looks official but Microsoft say that opening the attachment and installing the update will release a Trojan horse that will infect the computer.
Microsoft mentions that they never send out updates as email attachments.
