Virgin Media goes offline

Virgin Media customers suffered loss of services yesterday following a serious outage to one of the company’s network headends in Knowsley, a former Telewest area.

This resulted in the loss of services in the north and midlands areas.

As result of this problem there were some issues at the Virgin Media call centres too. This was probably due to the amount of calls they were receiving.

Virgin Media put the loss of service down to a fault on the National Grid; this caused a loss of power and also damaged their back power supply too.

Customers experienced a loss of TV and broadband services, although telephone services appeared to have been unaffected.

By mid afternoon, the system was coming back online, apart from the on demand service, which seemed to be taking a little longer.
