Freesat to launch PVR next month

The free satellite service Freesat, having being boosted by the 100,000 subscribers that they have attracted so far, is now about to introduce an HD compatible personal video recorder (PVR) which is going to compete directly against Sky.

The Freesat+ box is to be made by Humax and will be going on sale next month.

Its 320 Gb hard drive has enough capacity to store eighty hours of HD programmes or two hundred hours of standard TV programmes.

The Sky+ HD box can only store around thirty hours of programming.

Another good point is the ability to record two programmes at once like the Sky box, but unlike the Sky box the cost of the Freesat + is going to be around £300, which is considerably more expensive than Sky+, but then there is no subscription.

I’m glad the hard drive is now to be fitted to the Freesat as myself and many others have been waiting for this to come so I will be ordering this as soon as poss. as most of us have HDTV now and this is the only TV you can buy, a standard signal on HDTV is not so good as it pixelates too much so this is great news thanks.
