It is being described as an event similar to the coronation of the Queen, when everyone tried to get their hands on the latest technology.
In those days it was the TV, but in 2012 when the Olympic Games come to town there will be another technology boost.
This time the new technology is going to be a fibre optic network spanning 4,500 Km’s.
This is said to be capable of providing the next generation of communications to sixteen thousand fixed line phones and fourteen thousand mobile phones.
But it is not only that there will be some ten thousand individual points that will provide certain venues with the latest technology, the investment will live on much longer than the Olympic Games itself.
It is not just the VIP venues that will benefit from this investment. Schools, homes and sports clubs will also be getting access to this super fast network.
