Government rules out e-voting in 2009

It seems that there will be no e-voting next year for the local and European elections, according to the minister for justice, Michael Wills, whose department released a statement confirming that this would be the government’s take on the use of such technology for important events like the public voting in elections.

There may have been a slight indication of this decision during the election for London mayor, where there were some serious concerns over the design and testing of the e-voting system.

This is in addition to the issues that surround the security involved in e-voting.

This is not the end of e-voting, as the government has already put aside funding for the development of an e-voting system.

It just looks as if they are not ready to launch this just yet, as the government’s record with IT is not one of the best, so far.
