Verimatrix Receives Patents for Forensic Watermarking

Content security company, Verimatrix, has announced that the U.S. Patent office has issued patents for its VideoMark forensic watermarking technology used by pay-TV networks to secure their content.

The company still has several other patents awaiting approval from the patents office.

The new VideoMark patent covers the so-called human recognisable watermarking.

These electronic watermarks are visible to the human eye, which has been proved to be more effective in combating piracy.

It is also better adapted to avoid attempts to hide watermarking by use of manipulations of the image, such as cropping or geometric distortions.

VideoMark is also capable of embedding a unique client identification and then recovering this ID from any unauthorised redistribution of the content.

This means that it is possible to easily identify the source of pirated material.
