BT Vision Extends Comtrend Power Line Deal

BT Vision has renewed its contract with Comtrend, a leading global supplier of broadband customer premises equipment, for a second year.

BT will continue to use Comtrend’s Power Line Communication Technology to deliver its BT Vision service.

BT Vision, which provides over 70 free TV and radio channels, is available to UK customers via a V-Box set-top box. It comes with two Comtrend Power Grid 902 adapters, pre-configured for plug-and-play home networking.

The adapters form a local network bridge between BT’s Home Hub router and the V-Box.

BT Vision customers create a home network by simply plugging one Power Grid 902 adapter into the power outlet near the BT Home Hub, and another adapter into the power outlet in the room where the V-box is located.

This gives them access to BT Vision content.

The Power Grid 902 adapters feature the Aitana chipset from semiconductor manufacturer DS2 and support a maximum data transfer rate of 200 Mbits per second.

They can simultaneously support a wide range of digital broadband services including IPTV, voice over IP, online gaming and multi-media file sharing.

Jonathan Lishawa managing director, Comtrend UK, said: “This partnership is an ideal example of how our design and manufacturing capabilities coupled with our innovative, first-to-market approach can enable network operators to offer enhanced services and greater choice to their customers.”
