Samsung has demonstrated the largest HDTV that it is equipped to manufacture at the present time, a whopping 40in OLED (organic light-emitting diode) panel that was built on a pilot line and is too big for the company’s main assembly lines.
This means that mass production of the huge set isn’t yet possible, but the company is aiming for a release date of 2010 for the 40 inch sets, and also even larger 42inch HDTVs.
The huge screen features 1080p resolution, contrast of 1,000,000:1, 200cd/m² brightness rating and its color range is is 107% of the NTSC standard.
Despite its giant dimensions, the OLED technology, which doesn’t require a backlight, means the screen is just 8.9mm thick.
