US WiMax received a shot in the arm when ERF Wireless announced that the company has been granted a licence to operate in the 3.65 GHz WiMax band across the whole continental United States.

The company intends to make partnerships with other providers who are operating in the2.5 GHz band. This will give ERF a very strong position to move forward in the large and potentially profitable American WiMax market.

ERF Wireless are not yet actually ready to roll out as they are still in the stage of evaluating the different WiMax equipment possibilities available to them.

They have already stated that their first deployment will be to gas and oil production companies working in the southern states of Louisiana Texas and New Mexico.

This is the main area of deployment according to the company’s proposed business model announced a few weeks ago.

The company were ready to begin operations when they received their licence. But in just the last few months there have been several new technological advances in the equipment suitable for more cost-effective and widespread use of WiMax.

This is why the company is holding back, in order to assess the possibilities of this new technology before committing to a large-scale deployment.
