It was only a few days ago when BT issued what could be described as a profits warning, so it must have been a surprise for the broadband industry as BT announced that they would be increasing the broadband wholesale prices. For some this will take place in December followed by the rest in January.
It is going to be tough for those internet service providers to not increase prices, but it will have to depend on their individual circumstances.
Either way this is not a very good time for wholesale prices to be increasing, as it will only add more pressure to an already fragile economy.
ISPs do have alternatives, and could see this as an opportunity to boost their revenues through offering wholesale broadband to the smaller more vulnerable providers of broadband services.
