Ofcom want public investment in rural areas

The communications regulator Ofcom would like to see more private money and less public money being spent on the development of the high speed broadband network.

Ofcom also said that the public funds that are available should be used in areas where the internet service providers are not willing to invest.

This would mean that rural areas could be getting the boost that they need, while the main areas such as cities and towns would see the investment coming from the ISPs, but where they would be reluctant to invest because of the small population in these areas.

Already this has been seen to work, with regional development agencies raising funds to invest in local networks.
