According to new research from communications regulator, Ofcom, the UK is one of the most digitally advanced countries in the world, with digital TV in 86% of homes.

Ofcom’s International Communications Market Report also noted a huge increase in people signing up for HD, particularly in the UK, USA and Canada.

The seven largest countries surveyed now have 9 million HD subscribers between them.

The UK is leading the way in the use of Digital video recorders (DVRs), with which TV programmes can be recorded, stored, paused and fast forwarded.

DVRs are found in 700,000 UK homes, more than in France, Germany and Italy put together.

The report looked at the adoption of communication services in 12 established industrialised economies, and expanding economies such as India and China.
