UK completes first full scale switchover

November 24, 2008

TV viewers in Scottish Borders become the first in the UK to feel the full effects of a total switchover from terrestrial TV to digital TV.

The analogue service was totally turned off throughout the night and was replaced by the new digital channels throughout the day.

This work, when completed, marked the first complete full-scale switchover so far in the nationwide project to change over the way that UK TV viewers watch their favourite programmes, and for the first time some viewers will be able to receive more than just the standard five channels as they have done in the past.

This work will now carry on across the country, transmitter to transmitter, following the same two stage process.
