Broadband network in a state

by David Allen

It was only last year when the communications watchdog, Ofcom, claimed that the average broadband connection speed throughout the UK had doubled on that of the previous year to 4.6 Mbps.

Yet in a recent study by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) it was found that over forty two per cent of all broadband users are actually getting a broadband connection speed of less than 2 Mbps, much the shame of the internet service providers, but that may not be necessarily so.

The results that the ONS used are still based on what the ISPs claim in their advertising and not based on actual broadband connection speeds, which would have given a true reading as to the state of the UK’s broadband network.

As for internet users, the study found that fifty five per cent had no idea what their broadband connection speed was, and twenty per cent of broadband users were unhappy about their connection speed.
