Apple criticised over iPhone ad

Apple have been criticised by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for apparently misleading consumers about the iPhone’s actual capability when accessing the internet.

This is second time that Apple have fallen of the ASA rules over claims in adverts.

This time Apple have been reprimanded and the advert has banned from TV advertising slots, because they have misled consumers by saying that the iPhone can access the internet and also download too, “Really Fast”.

The ASA said that they were exaggerating the iPhone’s connection speed.

Apple say that they were simply comparing the iPhone’s speed when connected to 2G and 3G, however the ASA did mention that while most consumers may be familiar with speeds and the technology involved, others may not be, and therefore that is the problem.

    What a joke.

I’m going to sue the creators of Small Soldiers because i bought an action figure the same and it didnt do what they do on the film…

These adverts made me laugh when the small print says what you see aint how it works lol.

Fair play. I am aware of how slow the iphone actually is, but I believe many who have seen the advert believe that it can actually switch apps and load pages as fast as it’s shown in the ad.

Also, “toy action figures vs toy action figures in fictional film”? – Can’t really compare that to “real phone vs real phone on an (supposedly) informative and factual advert” about a product on the market.

Ben’s probably an Apple label-queen (that is someone who loves whatever Apple produces regardless of any major faults that may arise). I’ve read that Steve Jobs doesn’t like this portion of his customer base – the lack of criticism limits the extent to which Apple’s development team can improve their products as they can only test them to a point. Their products aren’t all perfect – I know, I have a Mac.

And to Sam – nowhere on the advert is there a disclaimer suggesting that the advertised performance mirrors the actual performance of the iphone. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=OknElEusVhM … what you’re thinking isn’t what you saw.

    *suggesting whether

aaah Aman, I think Sam’s comment was a joke!

…And for the record, Apple products are all perfect – I know, I have a Mac. :)
Seriously, if viewers believe everything they hear/see in ANY advertisement, they are the ones who should be criticised!

Here we go again, the ASA have got it in for Apple. They should really look at all the beauty ads and cleaning ad’s, they are mainly computer simulations. Does anyone care, of course not because we are not stupid. All Apple products are very good I have been using Mac’s since 1989 no problems. I would however like Steve to sell us an unlocked IPhone to the faithful Mac Users.
