Government should make broadband a priority
by David Allen

A new think tank, known as the Social Market Foundation (SMF), has said that the government should start to prioritise investment in high speed broadband or risk the digital divide getting wider and therefore harder to close at a later date.
Although this research has been partly funded by the BBC and Channel Five this does not mean that it focuses on broadcasting, because it does not. This report looks towards the future relationship between technology and broadcasting.
Over the next few years there will be changes in the way that TV is viewed, not just because of the switchover, but because the likes of the BBC are looking towards the internet for innovative ways of broadcasting their material.
However, in order for that to be a success the viewer needs to be able to access these services via the broadband network.
