UK to get 4G in 2010

The next stage in the development of the mobile phone network has been on the drawing board for some time, yet the Long Term Evolution (LTE), or 4G as it is bound to be called, still may not be rolled out in the UK until the end of 2010 at the earliest.

The chipsets will be available during 2009, however the cost of building the network and how long it will take are unknowns, and industry experts are talking about a huge increase in customers by 2013.

However, there is another matter to be considered; what happens to 3.5G in the meantime?

The maximum connection at the moment is 7.2 Mbps, but it is possible that speed could reach 42 Mbps or even higher to 80 Mbps, which means that maybe LTE is not required just to increase speed, because that capability is already there.
