Sky still wants stake in ITV

by David Allen

It looks as if BSkyB are not going to give up on their 17.9 per cent holding in rival broadcaster ITV, despite having been told by the competition commission that they should reduce the holding down to below 5 per cent.

However, it looks as if they could be heading off to the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) where they are expected to appeal against the ruling, which they are fully entitled to do under the terms of the process.

Should this approach fail, they could take this further to the Court of Appeal, but they would need to await approval for this to go ahead.

Whatever the outcome of these appeals, the time factor could mean that there is no final decision for at least another year.
