ASA look into Tiscali’s ads
by David Allen

Due to a series of complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), a number of adverts made by the telecom and broadband provider Tiscali have been under the microscope.
The first complaint was regarding the internet service provider claiming that customers could expect to achieve connection speeds of up to 8 Mbps.
Surprisingly this complaint was thrown out by the ASA, simply because of data going back to 2006.
However, in three other complaints ASA took another view.
These complaints regarded adverts in the press and online which claimed that they offered free line rental, even though there was a set up fee; along with unlimited UK calls up to 8 Mbps although this was limited to certain areas; and the price of £7.99 was only available for three months but this was not made clear.
Yet, it was only the last three complaints that the ASA upheld which is strange because the first complaint, which was thrown out covers the up to 8 Mbps issue.
