NYnet showcased in Europe

by David Allen

The public private partnership based in North Yorkshire, known as NYnet, has been chosen by a new European Commission scheme to be consultants on a project to be called B3 Regions: Regions for Better Broadband Connection.

The idea behind the scheme is to improve the internet and other IT projects right across Europe.

B3 Regions has been launched in York and is planned to run for twenty six months at a cost of 3.5 million Euros.

NYnet is now a private company, which was set up by the North Yorkshire County Council to improve internet access throughout the region.

It was also given a ten year contract to provide broadband services to the region’s schools and other public buildings, but it is envisaged that 600,000 households could also benefit from the net in due course.
